Quite simply, enlightenment blossoms in the garden of the immediate, where the seeds of past endeavors no longer sprout, and the vines of future anxieties cease to strangle. It emerges when you stand rooted in the soil of the present, fully immersed in the landscape of the now. To be enlightened is to recognize that this garden, vibrant and alive beneath your feet, is the entirety of your world. Here, free from the tangled overgrowth of what was or what might be, lies the heart of existence. In this clarity, the gateway to a more objective reality opens, inviting exploration into the flourishing possibilities of the present. This realization—this bloom of awareness—is to be enlightened to the present moment and all that it has to offer.
Envision consciousness as a vast, boundless ocean, its depths unfathomable. From this eternal sea, the spirit emerges like a single droplet, momentarily separate, yet ever a part of the infinite blue. The soul, then, is akin to a vibrant dye swirled into this droplet within a cup—the body. This dye colors the spirit with unique hues, marking individuality, yet it could never alter the ocean’s vast expanse.
The body serves as a vessel, a chalice that holds the spirit, allowing the soul to manifest its dazzling array of changes, witnessing itself and the cosmos with the clarity of self-awareness. Enlightenment blooms as one recognizes the tendrils of connection stretching back to the primordial waters from which they arose—a return to oneness with the cosmic ocean: true presence.
To be "asleep" in this grand schema is to forget these roots, to overlook the life-sustaining links that bind the soul to the all-encompassing consciousness. Spiritual suicide is the severance of these roots, driven by the ego’s whispers, seducing the soul into believing it stands alone, omnipotent and detached. Whether cloaked in the guise of nihilism, materialism, or the delusion of divine singularity, such paths lead only to desolation, for they starve the soul of its sustenance from the universal source.
Leaning towards atheism in one’s youth appears to be a natural progression and rite of passage in the quest for understanding—a path walked with the audacity of one who, lacking guidance, assumes omnipotence. This stance, while brimming with a false sense of empowerment, is fraught with peril, for it disconnects one from the fundamental truths of existence, ultimately leading to spiritual discord and disarray.
Similarly, agnosticism, with its cautious dance around belief, fails to grasp the enduring threads of absolute truths that govern our engagement with life. To navigate this game of existence without an understanding of its objective realities, is to wander a labyrinth without a map. Mastery of life, like any game, demands more than mere participation. A deep, nuanced understanding of our roots to all that is must be respected as part of nature’s law. Failure in this regard can only lead to misery and self-destruction as the soul becomes separated from the life giving waters of universal consciousness.
